The Newly formed Star Chamber of Commerce has stepped up to host the Star Mule Days activity which is scheduled for the first weekend in June. This monumental task has been vigorously approached by the Chamber committees formed by the Chamber President. The Star Chamber of Commerce has elected to provide a portion of the proceeds from the Mule Days event and sponsor two charitable organizations.

The Star Senior Center located at 102 South Main in Star has recently received notice of the availability of a new and larger passenger van. The van is used to transport seniors from a pick up location to the Senior Center. The van is larger than the existing garage can accommodate and the Star Chamber has proposed assisting with the construction of the new garage.

Another worthy charitable organization is the b4i Book Project. The b4i Book Project is an international educational effort to provide books written in English to third world school children who are learning English as a second language.

Israeli, Arab, Jewish, Christian and Bedouin school children, grades 1-6, will be the recipients of the hoped-for 3,000 books Star residents and visitors will bring to the Mule Days Celebration June 4-5.

“According to Taghreed Abdel Al, Flagship Coordinator for the Books for Israel Project in Acco, where the school cluster is located, terrorism has almost entirely wiped out what was once a very vibrant trading and vacation spot. Inner cities have become slums; children are depressed and residents have become filled with despair” said Julia Fenwick, President of the Chamber.

By sponsoring the book drive the Chamber will provide school teachers with the basic tool for helping to enrich the live of countless children.

The Mule Days event scheduled for June 4 and 5 has an admission price if $1 or 1 Book. The price of admission will provide a Mule Days button good for a 30% discount at Roaring Springs Water Park at the City of Star PM Plunge on June 18 as well as a raffle ticket for the many exciting gifts donated by area merchants.
